WHO OWNS THE INTERNET???

Hello Guys; welcome to yet another post by me..KK.

Today's topic is about... WHO OWNS THE INTERNET??

I am sure all of you who are reading this post should have an internet connection...thats is why you
are reading my post.

Many of you would be thinking... that who actually owns the internet... or who is in the top level
of the internet system.
So lets find the answer:

Many of you readers would be thinking, that the money you give to Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
like Airtel, Vodafone or Idea for your internet connection, like Rs 100 for 1 gb, so how do you obtain it?

After paying Airtel Rs 100 and obtaining 1 gb, to whom does Airtel pass on the money??

Actually, there is no single person who is like the owner of the internet.

The blog you are reading on currently, is being fetched by an unternet server, which may be Thousands of kms away from you, like in the USA.

Actually, the ISPs are divided into different divisions or tiers, based according to their popularity
all over the world.

There are Tier 1 ISPs like Docomo, Level 3 communications etc.
There are tier 2 ISPs like Airtel and Vodafone
And then there are Tier 3 ISPs like spectranet.

Like if a Google server is located in the USA and if you are reading this article from
India, then you may think that there should be at least some physical connections from
USA to India via cables or wires.

Yes.. they are there!! and this work is done by the Tier 1 ISPs.

These Tier 1 ISPs had laid down wires and cables from like Dubai to Bombay
Or North America to Europe, via the waterways, under the oceans and seas.

They had spent big amount of money to do so, and that is why they are placed the highest.
These ISPs are famous worldwide.

Then we talk about Tier 2 ISPs like Vodafone and Airtel, which have their networks running
on a national scale.
The Tier 3 ISPs have their networks runnig just in a particular region, Like Spectranet in Delhi.

There is even another concept involved in this known as peering.
In this, small ISPs combine and agree data sharing so that to increase their traffic.
Like Aircel has a broad traffic base in Rajasthan but not in Delhi, and Airtel has a broad traffic base
in Delhi but not in Rajasthan, so if they agree upon to exchange their traffic, then their traffic gets
increased.

The Tier 1 ISPs do not do any such things, as they are already established.

Now, how do they provide differnt speeds?
Lets us understand with the help of an example.
For example there are 2 people A and B, and A has a broadband connection speed of 10 mbps and pays Rs 500 pm for it;whereas B has a broadband connection speed of 1 mbps, and pays Rs 100 pm for it.
So as A pays more, the ISP would find the shortest route to redirect it to the website's server, whereas B pays less, then it would redirect it via short and cheap routes.

So friends you now might have understood who bascially owns the internet and how it works.
